Ek wil ten minste R2000 insamel.
Rotary Potchefstroom Immunization Project
The Rotary Club of Potchefstroom vaccinated over 400 babies against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) on Saterday 23 May 2009. The vaccinations were done free of charge. The total cost of this project was approximately R50,000-00. The good news, according to the club president Mr Pikkewyn Malan, is that this was just the first phase of what he hopes to become an ongoing project, because the demand was so large that many babies had to be turned away.
A matching grant of $12 000 from Rotary International Foundation has already been approved and will be paid over during August 2009, after which the next phase will be done. The club in the USA involved is the Rotary Club of Chicago. According to the president it was vital to have started this project during 2009 because of the theme "Make Dreams Real". In what the president described as a resounding success the highly efficient team, under the leadership of Rotarian Dr Alphons Raats, got through all vaccinations within an hour and a half. Pharmacy and nursing students from the North West University Potchefstroom Campus, assisted with administering the injections, and Rotarians and Rotary Anns helped with the organisation and completing the necessary documentation.
